Iowa DHS Cuts

Iowa's Human Services Department says it will be cutting 5% of its 5,029 member workforce, to 4777. KCCI reports DHS will get half of its cuts from not filling empty positions, and the rest will be layoffs. 236-jobs are getting the axe, 135 in field offices, and they're under an indefinite hiring freeze. Among the field jobs going are income maintenance and social workers. This will mean higher caseloads for income maintenance and social workers.
