The Ames Parks and Recreation Department now has more than one and a half million dollars. That's because when 81 year old Geitel Winakor died, she left the money to the department. Winakor was a retired Iowa State University professor who died on August 15 of this year. Ames city officials said the city council will determine how best to use the money, with advice from parks and rec.
