Discrimination Suit gets Underway

A trial based on racial discrimination gets underway in Polk County and could last for about three weeks. The state wanted to throw out the suit earlier this month, but the judge said no, that it was not too broad a suit and should go forward. He reminded the state that it certified the suit for class action several years ago. Back in 2007, 14 people claimed they didn't get state jobs because they were black. Now, the suit covers some six thousand who have gone after state jobs over the past eight years.
