Airport No Longer Owned by City

The city of Des Moines no longer controls its airport. KCCI reports that city council voted on Monday to give up control of the airport, making it an independent aviation authority. Council figures that by doing that, airline tickets in the future will be priced lower. The city's been charged with the airport for some 80 years, and by a six to one vote on Monday, that 80 years hit a turning point. On November first, the city will lease the airport for 99 years and the 67 employees who work for the city at the airport will be laid off and rehired by the new independent airport board.
