Martensdale Congregation Meets in School Gym

A massive fire last week couldn't stop the congregation of the St. Paul Lutheran church in Martensdale from holding services. Most of the 100 members came together yesterday at the local high school gym to mourn the loss of the century old building. They gathered around a makeshift altar that included the one thing firefighters were able to save from the flames--a special candle known as the Christ Candle. Fire officials say they may never be able to determine the exact cause of the fire because it burned the building so completely
