There's a public hearing December 10th on a rate hike request from Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. They want to raise premiums for 70,000 plus individual customer in Iowa by 9.35%, or about $47/month. Wellmark says the hike's needed because of increased use of health care services, which they blame on Iowans getting less healthy, partly because of obesity. They raised premiums for individual customers earlier this year by 8.5%.
