Amtrak Ridership Down

Summer rain and the Missouri River flooding have cut Amtrak's ridership by more than 15 percent. The Des Moines Register reports that its another blow to US passenger rail service, in Iowa, as Republican legislators say they don't want to spend state dollars on a Chicago to Iowa City route. That means the state would likely have to return the nearly 901 million dollar federal grant that was in place to fund the new route.
