Iowa was #4 in the nation in home ownership last. year. Data from the 2010 Census also showed foreclosure brought the percentage of homes currently vacant up 38% over what the numbers were in 2000. 1.3-million homes were owned i in 2010, with over 72% of those homes occupied by the homeowner. There were 114,900 homes in Iowa, or 8.6%, were vacant. Up sharply from 83,235 empty homes in 2000.
