In his Condition of the State speech today, Gov. Branstad said he'd consider signing a bill to raise the gas tax. Branstad also says he's throwing in the towel on ending free statewide preschool. The Des Moines Register reports the governor says the gas tax hike would not be for the budget year starting July 1st, since he expects the transportation department to come in with a proposal for saving $40-to-$60-million that'll be switched to road work.
