Regency Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center Fined in Gangrene Death

A Council Bluffs care facility is facing a federal fine of nearly 62 thousand dollars after a resident there died from contracting gangrene. The Des Moines Register reports that documents indicate that staff of Regency Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center did not properly care for the injury, and the attending physician reported that staff put ice on a wound, cutting off the blood supply to a broken leg. The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services imposed the fine against the facility.
