Legislative Panel Considers Requiring More to Submit DNA Samples

A legislative committee's considering a study bill that would require anyone in the state convicted of aggravated misdemeanors-like assault or domestic violence to submit a DNA sample to be used in profiling by police. Current law requires convicted felons to submit DNA, which can be compared with state and national databases to help solve other crimes. The Des Moines Register reports the ACLU and Iowa Association for Justice oppose the proposal.
