The Des Moines Fire Department has added thermal imaging cameras to its equipment stash this year. Firefighters finished training with the cameras last month, and have used them on several calls. Instead of being blinded by smoke, the scene becomes crystal clear with the cameras. Firefighters say the cameras allow them to see the crux of the fire much faster, and the inventions are right up there with breathing masks and oxygen tanks when it comes to helpful inventions.
