They struck Brenda Smith in the head with a tire iron and bit her. Smith awoke on Thursday to screams of her 22 year old daughter in her home in Ankeny. Five strangers in the home assaulting her, her daughter, son and daughter's boyfriend. The burglars broke in the door, kicked a hole in the large screen TV and caused extensive damage. Arrested and charged with assault of causing serious bodily injury and other charges were Janet Freeborn, Miranda Miles, Tyler Grove, Kelley Allbee, Keith Freeborn, 58, Thomas Mcelvogue, all from Des Moines. .The five suspects older than 17 remained in the Polk County Jail on Saturday on bond, except for Grove, who was denied bond because of a probation violation. Miles' status was not immediately available.
