The final work on the West Des Moines portion of the Southwest Connector should be completed next year, and officials in Warren County are looking at the possibility of extending the road west to Interstate Highway 35.

Civic leaders are optimistic a southern beltway, along with a widening of I-35 south of Des Moines, will help drive development throughout the area.

“That brings a lot of traffic, and a lot of development and hopefully some money to Warren County,” County Supervisor Dean Yorti said of extending the Southwest Connector.

Work on the first two phases of the road through West Des Moines were completed in recent months and construction on the final 1,400 feet of the road should begin early next year, city Engineer Duane Wittstock said.
