State House Passes School Spending Freeze

The Iowa House has passed a bill barring schools from increasing their budgets for teacher salaries and other developmental costs for the next two years. If signed into law by Gov. Branstad, who proposed it, public schools couldn't increase spending to keep pace with inflation, and education supporters tell the Des Moines Register that would mean staff and program cuts.
