Climatologists say expect an active tornado season. According to KCCI, 2011 was a near record year for twisters with 1,709 reported. The record was set in 2004 with 1,817 tornadoes. A strong La Nina last year produced a very strong jet stream. Experts say areas that have seen fewer severe storms in the past couple years might see an increase this season.
