Redfield Man Injured Trying To Shoot Raccoon

A Redfield man was reportedly shot twice Saturday while trying to kill a raccoon caught in a live trap. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, 68-year-old Larry Godwin fired his 22-caliber handgun at the animal but a bullet ricocheted off the cage and struck him in the adboomen. Authorities say Godwin then dropped the gun and it went off, shooting him a second time in the abdomen. Witnesses rushed the man to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Doctors say Godwin's injuries are not life threatening. Officials did not say whether the raccoon was injured in the incedent.
