According to Forbes, Gannett, the owner of the Des Moines Register, plans to switch all of its 80 community newspapers to a paid model by the end of the year. KCCI reports their are no specifics yet on how the company the pay wall will work. Gannett estimates the move will mean a 25% increase in annual subscription revenues for the company and raise earnings by $100 million per year.
