Mayor, Nephew Go On Trial Together

The mayor of Dunkerton and his nephew go on trial on March 20, facing misdemeanors for the way they acted at a disputed traffic stop. Mayor Michael Schares and nephew Thomas Adamson were cited for interference with official acts and harassment of a public official. This all started with a traffic stop on December 2, when Teresa Adamson was ticketed for speeding. The Adamsons are married. Mayor Schares allegedly intervened at the scene, and supposedly fired the ticketing officer, but said he didn't, and the officer is back at work. The trials for the mayor and his nephew have been combined.

Prosecutors have asked the court to combine the trials, which have been set for March 20.
