The Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission decided not to recommend a proposal that would allow the Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing and detainment offices to re-locate. ICE says it’s outgrown its current facility. The request will still go before the City Council, but six of seven council members would need to approve it, and city staff has recommended against the zoning amendments.
