Tips to Prevent Children Falling through Windows

A three year old boy fell from a second story window on the east side of Des Moines, yesterday. He does not appear to be seriously injured. But, local officials are concerned, because this makes at least four young children who have fallen from windows in the city, this year. Community Outreach educators say window stops or guards are crucial, when children are around, to keep the windows from opening wide enough for them to push through the screen. Anything parents use should be easy to remove in case of an emergency. Also recommended, placing a line of tape on the floor in front of the window and instruct children not to play beyond the line.
