Iowa Drops Out of Midwest Passenger Rail Coalition

Some local elected officials are not happy with Gov. Branstaad's refusal to renew Iowa's membership in a federal passenger rail advocacy group for next year, even after Iowa City, the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce, Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County, Quad Cities Chamber and Greater Des Moines Partnership agreed to pay the $15,000 membership fee. the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Coalition provides planning and federal lobbying for passenger rail in Midwest states including Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota.
