City staff's recommendation that a 2-acre piece of public green space in northwest Des Moines be classified as “excess property” could help pave the way for its sale. Developers John and Tim Mauro have a plan to build a senior apartment complex next to the Northwest Community Center. The Park and Recreation Board will decide on the staff recommendation today, and then city council has the final say. The estimated fair market value of the land is between $200-and-$250,000.
