Des Moines housing developers want to put a three story, 40-unit senior apartment building next to the Northwest Community Center on Franklin Avenue. That's currently about two acres of city-owned green space. A final decision on whether to sell the bulk of Franklin Field to the developers will require city leaders to balance needs to preserve public green space and offer more affordable senior housing in northwest Des Moines. The situation will be discussed tonight at a public meeting.
