The City of Des Moines has received two bids to demolish the vacant YWCA building at 717 Grand Ave. The bids were an average of $572,000 over the city engineer's $1.65 million project estimate. The city wants to explore other options before they commit to a way of getting rid of the building. The YWCA site is viewed as a prime redevelopment location, and it's possible a developer could help finance the demolition.
