A federal judge will decide next month whether or not to accept a deal settling a class action suit by sex offenders being kept locked up for treatment, against the State of Iowa. . The sex offenders say living conditions at the Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders in Cherokee was cruel and unusual punishment and violated their constitutional rights. Under the deal, Iowa would [pay $35,000 in legal fees, and make some changes to give patients more access to exercise and bathroom facilities.
