Early next year, you may have to plan on a longer commute, because work will be starting on replacing the Grand Avenue Bridge over Walnut Creek. The bridge is expected to be closed from April to October of next year. Des Moines officials tell the Des Moines Register the bridge is almost 100-years old and is now structurally unsound. The new bridge will have a turn lane, increasing the number of lanes to six.
