The University of Northern Iowa's hosting the 2011 Solar Splash World Championship of Intercollegiate Solar Boat Racing for the first time next month. It's June 8-12 at George Wyth Park. It will include 21 teams from four countries. A UNI tech professor calls the event a hand-on educational experience. The Des Moines Register reports teams earn points in seven categories, including engineering design, workmanship, and on-the-water sprint, endurance and slalom competitions.
