Local store could lose liquor license

City Council will consider the liquor license today of a north-central Des Moines store. Forest Market at 2105 Forest Ave. has been generating complaints in recent months about criminal activity near the store. So far city officials say the business has not provided enough audit information to prove it sells enough non-alcoholic goods. The local requirement is, a store must derive at least half of its revenue from food or food-related sales. If city council denies Forest Market a liquor license, the store plans to appeal to the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.
