A counseling center in West Des Moines could lose its Medicaid funding, not from budget cuts, but because a state review showed indications of fraud. Apollo Counseling and Resource Center reportedly had billing discrepancies and failed to conduct background checks on employees. An investigation is ongoing. The reviews were conducted as a few clients questioned billing practices and several former employees complained they hadn't been paid. Apollo's executive director, Erin Bustamante, denied the allegations.
