Will Greyhound Racing End in Iowa?

A State Senate committee's passed a bill to let Iowa's two greyhound tracks close. Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs and Mystique Casino in Dubuque would have to pay the state $70-million over 7-years for the right to pull the plug on dog racing. Supporters of the bill say greyhound racing's fading away nationwide, and it's costing the two casino's millions a year to keep the tracks here open. A similar bill didn't get to the senate floor last year.
